Peter Trieber survives sudden cardiac arrest thanks to courageous intervention and modern technology

Peter Triebefelder experienced what many would call a miracle: The 52-year-old survived a sudden cardiac arrest during a funeral – thanks to the quick action of first responders and the availability of a MedX5 defibrillator.

On the day of the incident, Peter Triebefelder was attending the funeral of an acquaintance. Afterwards, the mourners gathered at the Hubertus country inn for a wake. After Peter failed to return from the restroom for some time, he was eventually found unconscious in the inn's garden by an observant guest.

The guest immediately informed the innkeeper of the Hubertushof, who promptly called emergency services. At the same time, a nurse who happened to be present began CPR and used the MedX5 defibrillator available at the inn. These life-saving measures kept Peter alive until the ambulance arrived about 15 minutes later.

After intensive treatment, including six days in an induced coma, Peter finally woke up. Today, thanks to an implanted defibrillator, he enjoys excellent health.

Peter Triefelder owes his life to the decisive action of the first responders, the life-saving chest compressions and the use of the MedX5 defibrillator, which was purchased years ago by the dedicated innkeeper Thomas Petrich.

As part of the Safe Life donation program, Peter Trieberfeld was provided with a HeartSave myPAD defibrillator today. Peter plans to place it in his community to increase the safety of his fellow citizens.

“I am incredibly grateful to everyone who was involved in my rescue,” said Peter Triefelder. “The defibrillator at Hubertushof saved my life. It is very important to me that other communities also have access to such life-saving technology.”

This incident powerfully demonstrates the importance of making defibrillators publicly accessible and training people in first aid. The Hubertus country inn and Thomas Petrich deserve special recognition for their foresight, which ultimately saved a life.
